5 Gut- Friendly Veggies You Should Eat This Summer

Greetings, lovely readers! 

Mostly all sorts of fruits and vegetables are good for us, but let's especially talk about the 5 best health-friendly vegetables to beat the heat this summer. 


1. Cucumber (Indian name - Kheera)

Pronounced as:  Q-kum-ber



BENEFITS:
  • Cucumber is very hydrating as it is loaded with water (more than 90%), so it is perfectly suitable for summer. 
  • It is also low in calories and rich in fibre and minerals.
  • It helps the body to flush out toxins.

So, munch cucumber and kakdi (Indian cucumber or watermelon vine) this summer. We can eat it both ways, cooked or raw.




2. Bottle Gourd (Indian name - Lauki)

Pronounced as: bo-tuhl guord





BENEFITS:
  • The juice of 'bottle gourd' is quite popular with health freaks.
  • This veggie is loaded with minerals and is extremely good for the heart.
  • It reduces cholesterol.
  • It is healthy for the kidney.

Also, 'lauki ki sabzi' made with chana dal tastes awesome.

3. Eggplant or Brinjal (Indian name - Baingan)

Pronounced as: à¤¬ैंगन



BENEFITS:
  • Eggplant has flavonoids, potassium and vitamins in good amounts. 
  • It is really good for the intestine and digestion, making it suitable for summer.
We can make 'baingan bharta' , 'bharwa baingan' or simply the vegetable.

4. Pumpkin (Indian name - Sitafal)




Well, this vegetable is known by multiple names, like, Sitafal, petha, degla, kaddu, kola etc.


BENEFITS:
  • They keep the body cool and prevent heart disease. 
  • Pumpkins have Vitamin A and beta-carotene and are very beneficial.


5. Bitter gourd (Indian name - Karela)




This vegetable is power packed with several benefits:
  •  It is anti-inflammatory and has 94g of water.
  • It contains very less calories (about 12-13).
  •  It is good for diabetes. 
  • It keeps the intestine clean and healthy.
  • It increases our cancer and blood sugar prevention chances due to its hypoglycemic properties.
